3iQ Solana Staking ETF (TSX:SOLQ) Launch
It wasn’t long ago that investors wondered if digital assets were suitable for their portfolios. Today, that concern has been answered by institutions and portfolio managers who tout cryptocurrency-based products as an important part of a basket of alternative investments. So now, the question isn’t if, but how much digital assets should be in a portfolio.
One company on the cutting edge of this growing movement is 3iQ, a global leader in digital asset management focused on creating next generation investment solutions. Founded in 2012, the company enables investors to access Solana, an emerging blockchain technology that is powering the growth of the Web3 revolution. 3iQ is making Solana available through a regulated ETF that offer investors unparalleled diversification, enhanced liquidity, and the opportunity for significant returns.
3iQ’s newest offering, the 3iQ Solana Staking ETF (TSX:SOLQ), is part of a small group of ETFs that have been approved as the first Solana exchange-traded funds in North America. The fund follows the daily price movements of Solana (SOL), the underlying cryptocurrency that powers the Solana blockchain, and offers the potential for long-term capital appreciation, along with a staking yield, which is a reward for validating digital transactions paid in cryptocurrency.
The beauty of this ETF, according to Pascal St-Jean, President and CEO of 3iQ “is that it gives investors access to SOL, and the monetary benefits of staking, along with the security of a regulated product, and you have a highly convenient investment opportunity with excellent growth potential.”
Of particular note is the team that stands behind the fund. “In addition to our leading edge digital asset analysts and research team” St-Jean observed, “we also have a team that has a long history of product innovation in the traditional ETF and hedge fund space, and we can bring those two worlds together in a safe, secure, simple way.”
For the first 12 months, the management fee for the fund will be waived and all this expertise will be available for free. It will then rise to 0.15% the following year, making it competitive with many of the best funds in the industry.
In Canada, Digital Asset ETFs like the 3iQ Solana Staking ETF (TSX:SOLQ) can be purchased within a Tax-Free Savings Account (TFSA) or the Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) where any earned capital gains are either tax-free or tax-deferred over time.
The 3iQ Solana Staking ETF (TSX:SOLQ) represents another industry first in 3iQ's well-established history of leadership and innovation in the digital asset space. The company launched North America’s first major exchange-listed Bitcoin (TSX:QBTC) and Ether Funds (TSX: QETH), while the Ether Fund and the 3iQ Ether Staking ETF (TSX: ETHQ) became the first exchange traded products in North America to include staking Ether as a key strategy.
3iQ has also been a trailblazer when it comes to regulating the industry. “Back in 2015, we recognized that digital assets had the potential to transform the economy and improve investors’ lives, but there wasn’t a safe, accessible way to invest in them” St-Jean recalled. “In those early days there were still a lot of crypto players doing business out of their basements. So, we led the charge to establish comprehensive regulations for digital assets in Canada and around the world. We invested our hearts and energy, and a lot of time and dollars to make this space more accessible and secure for investors.”
As a result of those efforts, several other countries have been able to learn from the innovation that 3iQ brought to Canada as we saw the emergence of the US Bitcoin ETF and Hong Kong Bitcoin ETF funds were launched this past year, and there are currently billions of dollars of exchange traded products in Europe, while a booming demand for new ETFs in Canada continues to grow.
The launch of The 3iQ Solana Staking ETF (TSX:SOLQ) is giving investors access to Solana, a leading competitor to Ethereum. Solana, known for its significant transaction speed and cost-efficiency advantages, is currently the fastest growing blockchain in terms of adoption among developers, making it a significant player in the cryptocurrency ecosystem and Web3, the next evolution of the internet.
St-Jean believes that the growth of digital blockchains like Solana and the creation of cutting-edge digital products will continue to provide more access, more flexibility, and more opportunities for investors. And it’s just the start. “All these changes that we're seeing really illustrate a change in mindset,” St-Jean said. “Large institutions like the Mubadala Investment Company just recently announced a USD$500 million allocation to Bitcoin. Firms like BlackRock and Fidelity are also participating with the launch of their own products and adding Digital Assets to their global portfolios. For them to launch these types of products is a validation that this asset class is here to stay. It's real and it's a next generation asset for a digital world”.
