Tapping into the rapidly growing environmental sector

ECO Canada is a steward for the Canadian environmental workforce across all industries. From job creation and wage funding to training and labour market research - they champion the end-to-end career of an environmental professional. Further, the Company aims to promote and drive responsible, sustainable economic growth. This is all while ensuring that environmental care and best practice is a priority.

"Based on a recent report that we published in winter 2020, it says that cleantech is a 1.2 Trillion dollar industry. We expect that to grow to 2.5 trillion by 2022," says President and CEO, Kevin Nilsen.

The environmental sector is growing at a tremendously rapid rate from manufacturing, forestry, agriculture, energy to mining. ECO works alongside both government and policy makers. They also work with industry and academia, to ensure they support Canada as a global leader in environmental innovation and jobs. Their leading research provides unmatched statistics and analysis on the economic and labour trends that identify workforce gaps within industry.

"Our estimates suggest that as many as 100K net new jobs are needed to meet the demand in this sector," says Nilsen.

ECO Canada's report highlights Canada as number one in the world when it comes to research and development and innovation in the cleantech space. However, Canada was only number 16 when it came to commercialising opportunities and generating revenue from it. ECO wants to make sure that Canada focuses on commercialisation to take full advantage of this global opportunity.

"If we succeed, companies have great workers, individuals have great careers, society benefits and environmental benefits. It really is a win, win, win, win all around," says Nilsen.
