Invest Nunavut: The Land of Opportunity

Investing opportunities in Canada's Nunavut

Nunavut comprises a major portion of Northern Canada and most of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. Further, it is a vast, unexplored area of Canada.

Mining is Nunavut’s greatest private sector employer and a major driving force in the economic growth of the young territory. The industry’s foundations have grown steadily in Nunavut’s first two decades, thanks to its significant mineral potential. "Odds of finding a rare earth or a valuable mineral is so great within Nunavut," says Premier, Joe Savikataaq.

The people of Nunavut are both friendly and committed to improving their children's future. Agnico Eagle is the largest private employer in the territory. "We've spent, last year, approximately 10 million dollars in training. A third of our workforce are now local people," says Ammar Al-Joundi, President of Agnico Eagle.

Moreover, under the Nunavut Agreement, the Inuit are involved in the permitting and vetting process. "Consultation is embedded in these regulations and that has certainly made it better for all parties," says the CEO of Sabina Gold & Silver, Bruce McLeod.
