Kirkland Lake Discoveries: Can new drilling unlock the next Abitibi gold find?

25,000 metres of testing underway across the largest consolidated land package in the historic camp.

Kirkland Lake Discoveries is drilling brand-new targets within the 48M oz Kirkland Lake Gold Camp, combining district-scale exploration with the recently acquired Mirado Gold project to pursue both discovery upside and resource growth.

Kirkland Lake Discoveries is working in one of the most productive gold regions on the planet — the Abitibi Greenstone Belt — where more than 200M oz has been mined. The company now controls the largest consolidated land package in the camp’s history and has launched an aggressive exploration program to test targets that have never been drilled before.

A 25,000-metre drill campaign is underway around a 17-kilometre pluton, driven by geophysical and geochemical targeting. Management expects assay results every two to three weeks, creating steady news flow through early summer.

Two-pronged strategy

The recent purchase of the Mirado Gold project adds a brownfields resource of 442,000 ounces in open pits. Most historical drilling stopped above 250 metres, leaving the system open at depth. Leadership describes Mirado as both an exciting new exploration horizon, and a way to de-risk the story with a proven resource

The Abitibi location offers advantages in cost and logistics, with a skilled workforce and established infrastructure. Neighbouring producers such as Agnico, Eldorado, and Pan American Silver reinforce the camp’s mining pedigree.
